Board Member Spotlight: George Robertson
Lifelong Learner, Industry Advocate, and Community Builder
At NetVU, our board members bring decades of experience, insight, and leadership to help shape the future of the insurance industry. One of those leaders is George Robertson of Rockingham Insurance, whose passion for education, technology, and community continues to make a meaningful impact across the industry.
Growing up in Eden, North Carolina, George’s connection to insurance started early. His father founded the family agency in 1952, and George officially took over in 1994 after spending years around the business.
“I was probably in middle school when I started being around the agency,” George shared. “I’ve been around the insurance business for quite a while.”
While he once thought he might leave his small hometown behind, George discovered that insurance offered something far greater than he expected — meaningful relationships, lifelong learning, and the opportunity to help others.
Leading Through Technology & Innovation
George is especially passionate about how technology is transforming the insurance industry. As both a former programmer and longtime agency leader, he brings a unique perspective to conversations around innovation and AI.
“I think AI is a whole other generational shift,” George said. “People need to understand and be a student of AI and learn as much about it as they can, because that’s really going to assist us as a tool moving forward.”
He has also been deeply involved in conversations around the evolution of QQCatalyst, highlighting improvements in speed, efficiency, integrations, and user experience. George sees these advancements as part of a larger mission: helping agencies operate smarter while building stronger connections across the user community.
Why Community Matters
If you’ve attended Accelerate, chances are you’ve seen George presenting or engaging with attendees. For him, the value of events like Accelerate goes far beyond product updates or training sessions.
“The wonderful thing about being at these conventions in person is that you really create friendships in the community,” he explained. “You can pick up the phone and call somebody about an issue you may have — and it may not even be product specific.”
That sense of community is one of the reasons George values NetVU so highly. Whether through webinars, online communities, or educational resources, he believes NetVU helps agencies stay connected and continue learning together.
“Education is a prime factor,” George said. “We’re building that community.”
Giving Back Through Volunteer Leadership
For George, serving on the NetVU Board is about giving back to an industry that has given so much to him over the years.
“Especially for those of us who’ve been around for a while, we’re trying to give back to the next generation,” he shared. “Anything we can do there as volunteering is just really giving back.”
As a board member, George focuses on helping guide educational initiatives and ensuring agencies have the tools and knowledge they need to navigate industry changes.
“I think it’s helping everybody see what’s needed by the agents that are out there — the day-to-day issues they face, what educational products we should be putting out for members, and guiding and directing as we move forward.”
Beyond the Office
Outside of insurance, George is an avid traveler who has visited all 50 states and plans to travel extensively overseas. He enjoys meeting new people, hearing their stories, and learning from different perspectives along the way.
He’s also a self-described lifelong learner who stays sharp through continuous reading and study. One of his favorite books? The Psychology of Money.
And if he could have lunch with anyone in history?
“Abraham Lincoln,” George said. “He loved to tell stories — and I’m a storyteller.”
Looking Ahead
George believes one of the biggest misconceptions about insurance is that it’s boring. In reality, he says, it’s an industry full of opportunity, innovation, and meaningful connections.
“The secret is — it is fun, and it’s exciting.”
NetVU is grateful for George’s leadership, insight, and commitment to helping agencies grow stronger together. His dedication to education, technology, and community continues to inspire members across the industry.
