As Vertafore’s Executive Sponsor to the NetVU Board of Directors, Rick Warter plays a unique and invaluable role—one built on partnership, transparency, and a deep commitment to helping Vertafore users thrive. With nearly 30 years of leadership experience across consulting, telecommunications, high tech, and healthcare, Rick brings both a strategic mindset and an approachable, grounded style that fits seamlessly with NetVU’s mission.
From First-Generation College Student to Executive Leader
Rick’s path to executive leadership wasn’t predetermined. As the first in his family to pursue a college degree, he credits a high school mentor—his girlfriend’s father—with helping him understand how to navigate higher education. His parents, supportive but unsure of the process, encouraged him wholeheartedly. That early guidance, paired with Rick’s own drive, set him on a trajectory toward a successful career with major organizations including Accenture, AT&T Wireless Services, Oracle, Point B, and ultimately Vertafore.
Even today, he laughs at the fact that some personality traits haven’t changed since childhood. “I never liked it if I ripped the sticker putting it into the sticker book,” he recalls. That early attention to detail has carried through to the meticulous, steady approach he brings to his work.
A Leader with a Wide Lens on the Industry
Rick’s career didn’t begin in insurance, but had a stop in the healthcare payer space—giving him a front-row seat to how complex systems engage providers and build networks. Throughout his career, he’s maintained a curiosity about how industries evolve and what changes mean for the people doing the work.
Today, he sees several major trends shaping insurance, including growth in the E&S market, accelerating consolidation among agencies, and a meaningful shift in how artificial intelligence will support—and transform—agency operations.
He’s particularly energized by the potential of agentive AI: “It’s going to be a game changer,” he notes. “Not just by helping agencies work faster, but by offering them insight into why certain coverage options matter. It helps agencies be smarter— not just quicker.”
A True Advocate for the User Community
Ask Rick what stands out most about NetVU, and he doesn’t hesitate: the mission.
“I like that NetVU helps Vertafore users be more successful—not just at using Vertafore technology, but at running stronger, better agencies. It’s about helping the whole business, not just the software.”
His advice to those considering getting involved? Start small, show up, and be part of the community. “You put a little bit in to get a little bit out,” he says. “But once you start participating, more doors open.”
Rick’s perspective has been incredibly impactful for NetVU’s leadership—and especially for Executive Director Jon Gorman, who speaks highly of Rick’s collaboration and commitment.
“Rick deeply understands NetVU’s mission and consistently looks for ways Vertafore and NetVU can support each other’s success. He shows up as a partner, not just a representative, and that has made a meaningful difference in how we work together.” — Jon Gorman
Life Beyond the Office
When he’s not focused on strategy, innovation, or partnership-building, Rick explores an impressive list of outdoor passions. Fishing tops the list, followed closely by skiing, scuba diving, cycling, and anything related to mountain adventures. He also devotes time to community work with organizations like Children’s Hospital Colorado, Good Sam Bike Jam, and Denver Kids, Inc., and serves as a mentor to MBA students at the University of Denver.
And for a fun fact? Rick is a relative of the Wright brothers—yes, those Wright brothers.
His go-to songs and movies also speak to his down-to-earth personality: “Layla” for an instant mood boost, and Old School for a guaranteed laugh.
Strengthening the NetVU–Vertafore Connection
Rick’s thoughtful approach and genuine investment have made him an exceptional executive sponsor—one whose leadership has helped build a stronger, healthier, more aligned relationship between NetVU and Vertafore.
As NetVU Board Chairman, Shyla Lankford summarized it:
“Rick’s leadership and support have been instrumental in building a more connected and aligned relationship between NetVU and Vertafore. He helps us understand where Vertafore is headed and ensures our voice is heard.”
With partners like Rick guiding the way, the future between NetVU and Vertafore continues to look bright.
