Finding Purpose and Passion: My NetVU Volunteer Experience

Becoming a NetVU volunteer changed my life for the better. I never thought I’d enter the insurance industry even though it’s the family business. I considered myself a workflow and process person, driven by curiosity of always trying to find a better way of solving a business challenge. I always questioned why something was set up a certain way, how it could help improve processes, and how systems and technology could address challenges. In my mind, insurance was about sales, and I wasn’t a salesperson! That perception changed in 2010, after college, when I recognized the depth and breadth of service in the insurance industry and decided to join the family agency in Pittsburgh.

My NetVU journey began with a certification course in Dallas, where I found my community among the Network of Vertafore Users. I encountered no judgment, a wealth of information, and a true sense of collaboration for the betterment of the industry. I was captivated! There were people just like me, in a variety of levels who wanted to work together, learn, teach, and have fun! Not only did this new community help me professionally, but I have also made so many friends and built relationships I treasure

Nearly 15 years later, reflecting on my service as the outgoing board chair of NetVU, my curiosity hasn’t waned and neither has my desire to serve. I have a deep desire, along with my fellow volunteers and NetVU staff, to continue to be a part of this special community of people who are constantly striving to leave it better than we found it.

NetVU is powered by volunteers and time is such a valuable commodity. Taking that first step can be challenging. Where do you start? How do you ensure you're contributing without overcommitting? That’s why I am thrilled about the new NetVU resource– the Volunteer Journey. The site allows users to filter based on available time, tasks, and more.
