I’ve watched two documentaries in the past year about the legendary Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, that portrayed the same pivotal event in her career. No matter the depths of her natural talent, she wasn’t able to translate that talent into success (i.e. record sales, hit records, and critical acclaim) early in her career.

It took a new approach and new ideas. Ultimately, Franklin was sent to Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and what she found was unexpected, but ultimately magical.

The difference was an open mind and being in a room with geniuses who helped her unlock her own unique talents.
