With a career spanning nearly 50 years, Janet Tuttle is a true veteran in the world of insurance accounting and a tireless advocate for leveraging technology to simplify, streamline, and strengthen agency operations. This year, we are proud to recognize Janet as the recipient of the Insurance Technology Advocate Award in Memory of Wade S. Dunbar Jr., celebrating her commitment to education, innovation, and community.
A Lifelong Career Rooted in Service
Janet got her start in the insurance industry as a high school senior. What began as an entry-level job evolved into a dynamic career filled with milestones—teaching, agency consulting, and tech advocacy. Her passion lies in the numbers, but even more so, in helping others find smarter ways to do their work.
"I love accounting and I love just helping insurance agents go do what they do—sell—and we keep the back end running," Janet said. Her impact is immeasurable: she recently taught a NetVU session with 340 participants and is already planning two follow-up sessions.
Always a Learner, Always a Teacher
Janet is a firm believer in the importance of taking time to grow. Whether it’s attending a user group meeting, joining a local chapter event, or reading the latest software updates, she encourages others to invest in their learning.
"Every time I go to a conference or visit an agency, someone says, ‘I didn’t know the software did that,’” she said. “It’s always in there—just nobody told you!”
That’s where Janet shines. Her ability to uncover hidden efficiencies and communicate them clearly has helped countless professionals better understand and utilize their tools.
Relationships First
For Janet, technology is important—but people are essential. She emphasizes building strong relationships with carriers, clients, and colleagues alike.
“It’s just so important,” she shared. “The more time you save people at work, the more time they have for what matters. I have 17 grandkids—I'm making time to have more time with them.”
A Surprising (but Well-Deserved) Honor
Janet was stunned when she learned she had received the Insurance Technology Advocate Award. But those who know her weren’t surprised at all.
“One of my goals has always been to take the detail work off people—make it automated, make sure we’re using every little piece of information. If there are three ways to do something, I’ll help find the one that fits best for everyone.”
Her approach is methodical, collaborative, and deeply practical: “If we all do it wrong, it’s going to be wrong. If we all do it right, it’s going to be right.”
Advocating for Better, Smarter Workflows
Janet’s definition of advocacy is simple: don’t just work harder—work smarter. She’s the first to ask, “Why are you doing eight steps when it only takes two?”
This clear, pragmatic mindset has made her a go-to resource for countless professionals. Whether through consulting, speaking, or day-to-day problem solving, Janet is making a meaningful difference.
We are honored to shine the spotlight on Janet Tuttle—a mentor, educator, and advocate whose dedication continues to inspire.
Congratulations, Janet—and thank you for everything you do.
