Introducing Shyla Lankford

Shyla was headed for the medical field, but insurance intercepted her career, as it has so many others. In 1997, while working at an agency reception desk, she realized insurance “clicked in her brain.” She soon earned her license and ventured into commercial accounts, where she could combine her passion for learning and crafting solutions. After advancing through positions at several agencies, in 2010 she found the environment and challenges she was looking for at Lipscomb & Associates in Dallas.

With expertise in a variety of industry sectors, Shyla specializes in construction and real estate.  She encountered hesitancy at first in the male-dominated construction world, but she quickly demonstrated how well she knows the industry.

Leveraging her negotiation skills with carriers, she manages a commercial book with a premium volume in excess of $10 million. She also supervises a support team of account managers and has served as COO and partner of Lipscomb Insurance Group since June 2021. Her affinity for insurtech has been a tremendous asset to her career.

Shyla is certified as a Construction Risk & Insurance Specialist (CRIS) by the International Risk Management Institute (IRMI). She is a NetVU AMS360 Certified Account Manager and is completing her Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designation. She credits NetVU as important to her career growth. Interacting with other NetVU members has provided a tactical avenue for her questions, particularly about insurance operations. She originally was recruited by Debbie Ivie of NetVU to attend a Dallas chapter meeting. Shyla now serves as the chapter head and thanks Debbie for “volunteering her.”

In addition to NetVU, the many nonprofit organizations Shyla volunteers for include: Emerging Leaders for Independent Insurance Agents of Dallas, Dallas Children’s Charities, Dallas CASA and Ronald McDonald House. Her family’s history of military service ― her grandfather, father, husband and son have all served ― leads her to organizations that help active and retired military, particularly those nonprofits that deal with the transition back to civilian life.

Shyla and husband, Robert, are the proud parents of children Will, Kaylee, Meghan and Sadie. For three years, Shyla and Robert have owned and operated Iguana Marine in Lake Havasu City ― which has become a premier marine service and repair shop in Western Arizona.
